Dynex Support Sucks

Dynex is the Best Buy brand. We were recently there and I noticed a $20 webcam that said it supported OS X 10.1 and greater on the box so I decided to purchase it. I installed the included drivers and software and started up their software. I just get a black screen with “No video input.” The LED on the webcam does turn on and off appropriately. I took it back and exchanged it thinking the unit was deffective. The new one had the same problem.
Unfortunately their included drivers are as ancient as the version of OS X referenced on the box. There are a few commercial and open source driver sets available for web cam support on OS X but unfortunately this camera isn’t supported by any of them. They said they had 24x7x365 support on their website so I figured, what the heck, maybe they have some nice shiny new drivers they forgot to link to on the website.

This is the call:

“So what seems to be the problem?”
“Well I have a Mac and the box said the Mac is supported so I installed the drivers and software that came with it and the software that came with it says there is no video from the cam”
“Oh, well since you said you have a Mac you will need to contact the manufacturer of the computer
to see if…”

“There is nothing wrong with the computer.”
“Right but maybe there is some sort of driver that you need for the Mac to make it work.”
“Exactly, and that driver comes from the manufacturer of the device, that would be Dynex, whom you
represent.”

Click.

Just to be clear, that click there at the end is them hanging up on me. I guess they couldn’t argue with that.

Hi. Restart of my PowerBook running OS X 10.5.8 allowed Skype to recognize the Dynex DX-DTCAM. As suggested above, I first installed the Mac driver via http://www.dynexproducts.com/pc-459-25-dynex-desktop-web-camera.aspx . After install and restart, I checked for the camera under Skype/Preferences/Video – Camera. Hope it works for you. Cheers.

I’m having the same problem, but with Gmail. Is there something I need to do to get my DX WEB1C to work with Gmail? I think it works with Skype, and I make sure to turn Skype off when i’m trying to get it to work with Gmail. Still no luck, though.

I bought a 26 inch Dynex television less than a year ago and it has stopped working. I have not been able to watch my t.v for days. Not to mention the product had been discontinued. I will never in my entire life buy another Dynex product. I spent my money and now I have nothing to show for it but a broken piece of merchandise that I can no linger use. Thank You Dynwx

Mac handles webcams differently than any version of windows when it comes to drivers and software. The easiest way to get a webcam working on mac is actually to use the vision cam made for the xbox360 http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Live-Vision-Camera/dp/B000GCGB3M

It works without having to install any kind of software or drivers. The only downside is that the xbox live vision cam does not have auto focus and you will have to manually adjust the little green ring on the cam till you get the desired picture quality.

    Good luck,
    Bob T.

    Dynex SUCKS !
I bought a DXCR6N1 card reader, came with a Mini CD for the drivers, I have a Mac Book Pro. the disk will not work in this type of laptop. it will only take regular CD’s.

I tried to get a down load on line, NO luck… so I called Dynex.
they have a customer support line 1-800-305-2204. the woman who answered could barely speak English. She had No idea !, what to do.
