Dynex is the Best Buy brand. We were recently there and I noticed a $20 webcam that said it supported OS X 10.1 and greater on the box so I decided to purchase it. I installed the included drivers and software and started up their software. I just get a black screen with “No video input.” The LED on the webcam does turn on and off appropriately. I took it back and exchanged it thinking the unit was deffective. The new one had the same problem.
Unfortunately their included drivers are as ancient as the version of OS X referenced on the box. There are a few commercial and open source driver sets available for web cam support on OS X but unfortunately this camera isn’t supported by any of them. They said they had 24×7x365 support on their website so I figured, what the heck, maybe they have some nice shiny new drivers they forgot to link to on the website.
This is the call:
“So what seems to be the problem?”
“Well I have a Mac and the box said the Mac is supported so I installed the drivers and software that came with it and the software that came with it says there is no video from the cam”
“Oh, well since you said you have a Mac you will need to contact the manufacturer of the computer
to see if…”
“There is nothing wrong with the computer.”
“Right but maybe there is some sort of driver that you need for the Mac to make it work.”
“Exactly, and that driver comes from the manufacturer of the device, that would be Dynex, whom you
represent.”
Click.
Just to be clear, that click there at the end is them hanging up on me. I guess they couldn’t argue with that.

… thats all i have to say you fucking idiots
Now their link to their driver is down!?!?? What a bunch of crackpots.
I need the drivers for the 101 dynex web cam the one I got with the cam does not work
I got one from eBay. Before I bought it, all the reviews said it is a very reliable webcam. Well, I tried to use it in my laptop (Windows XP). I only get black screen.
I am so mad now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay that suck, anyways it did work fine on xp but i cant get it to work on vista, if anybody was succesful can you explain exactly what you did?
tks
well guess what? I manage to make it work no problem..wanna no how?
for Vista user
Install the driver from the website which was updated recently, do not install the dynex software!
I recommend you go with a 3rd party software 100% reliable let me tell ya cause it work first try! I downloaded ManyCamSetup from download.com which is free by the n decided to give a last change to dynex software but this time I opted for webcam companion and it worked fine!!! must be a glitch in their software
good luck
Just wanted to add myself to this Dynex hate list. What a piece of garbage! I tried the rocketfish camera and have no had a whole lot of luck with that either. It works off and on, but freezes more than anything. Does anyone know of another camera that will work with Mac Panther 10.3.9?? Please help!
Just bought the Dynex DX-DTCAM as well for $29 CDN. Installed the drivers…and voila! NO VIDEO. Wish I read this page before buying the crappy camera, glad I don’t have to waste time calling their customer support, thanks to this thread…
Man, the camera SUCKS. Vista 32bit won’t even let the installer run properly, not to mention i cant even see the device sometimes. Piece of crap, don’t buy. Thats what I get for being cheap and getting a $20 camera instead of a $40 one.
you can use a driver that makes usb cam work on mac osx and its free http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/ i have Dynex DX-WC100 webcam and its working now.i can use it with skype but not with ichat. you can try this driver for ichat but its not free http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/
yep, mine doesn’t work either. I have installed and uninstalled and reinstalled until the sun came up and went down again, and still nothing It says the capture mode won’t go to graph. What the heck does THAT mean?
Their support is ridiculous. Told me to do something I had already done at least twice.
We need to ban together and BAN this product!
http://www.dynexproducts.com/p-459-dynex-desktop-web-camera.aspx
Went to the site un-installed ALL old drivers and installed BRAND new
STILL BLACK SCREEN!
“I just got my DX-DTCAM to work with Skype on a Mac Mini (OS X 10.4.10). I installed the drivers that came with the CD and it didn’t work. Then I downloaded the driver update on the Dynex website, restarted the computer and Skype recognized the camera connected.
Dynex just put up a new driver earlier this month so try it out.
http://www.dynexproducts.com/p-459-dynex-desktop-web-camera.aspx”
YOU ARE FULL OF SHIT DOESN’T WORK WELL THATS 2 IN A ROW CAN THEY MAKE a 3rd driver that doesn’t work..
?
I have a Dynex Dx-DTCAM and I am a geek squad rep I made it work on windows xp for my
freind but when i got home to lies from DYNEX webcam It may only work for desktops that are xp if installed properly. SUE DYNEX
I bought one at Bestbuy as well, insatalled it, the windows did say it was not logo certified, and it works very well. Not too many features but what do you expect for $20. I am running Xp Pro with all the updates. Sory for the others!
Ok. I agree with every one about how the support sucks and the out of box experience is truly horrendous. HOWEVER, I was able to get this camera installed and working under Vista. Someone earlie posted their workaround but I’ve decided to be a little more specific. This is for VISTA users only.
1. Do not plug in the camera yet!
2. Download and install the driver package from http://www.dynexproducts.com/p-459-dynex-desktop-web-camera.aspx Click on the link under product drivers for Windows and Mac.
3. Open the folder and run the setup utility.
4. After the installation is complete go ahead and plug in the camera.
5. It won’t work yet.
6. Click on Start and type Device Manager in the search dialog box. Click and select continue to open up Vista’s device manager.
7. Click the + sign next to Imaging Devices.
8. Double-click Dynex Web Cam
9. Click the tab that says Driver.
10. Click Update Driver.
11. Select Browse my computer for driver software.
12. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
13. Select Dynex Webcam.
14. Re-start and you’re in business with Dynex finally!
OMG I LOVE YOU! it tattly worked! i have been trying to gett it to work for likr 3 years!!! i would kiss you if i could! your like the awsomest and best ! yayy
tottaly*
Same here, but found a solution if you are running an intel mac. Turn Rosetta on for your preferred browser (under get info) and install adobes shockwave player (will only let you download and install if you have Rosetta turned on) once installed you can turn off
Rosetta and wa-la…
Same thing mic works but the video wont.
deffinitly taking it back
this is Bs.
well after reading this ill pass on the dynex piece of crapola and after
research the only webcam i found that says vista compatible is
Rocketfish™ Notebook Web Camera
Model: RF-NBCAM
—BLACK SCREE—
–Also, got the Black Screen on our PC and Mac my this webcam. Victor-Hugo’s solution below worked for the PC! You Rule, V-H!—-
The problem is that windows installs Hewlett package drivers instead of the uncertified Dinex drivers!!! So simple tho it took me about 1hr to find… The trick is to install the Dinex drivers on your computer with the CD. Then when you plus in the webcam it will say crap like new device blah blah. You click the advanced option in wich you can choose the drivers folder. Then on the next window you click on the *manually choose* option. Then you will see the Dinex drivers appear. You select them and install. (if you did the correct thing , windows will notify you that these drivers are not certified or w/e) and then it worked for me :P
–For my beloved Mac, this solution below worked.—
“I just got my DX-DTCAM to work with Skype on a Mac Mini (OS X 10.4.10). I installed the drivers that came with the CD and it didn’t work. Then I downloaded the driver update on the Dynex website, restarted the computer and Skype recognized the camera connected.
Dynex just put up a new driver earlier this month so try it out.
http://www.dynexproducts.com/p-459-dynex-desktop-web-camera.aspx”
—I had to restart the computer for it to start working—
— Good Luck___
Yep….just successfully got the camera running on my XP machine using the driver found on the Dynex web site. You’ve got to manually install the dynex driver using the device manager under your systems folder. Look under “imaging devices” and “upgrade the driver” for the dynex cam. The camera works quite well once you’ve actually gotten it to operate at all!
I too got the DX-DTCAM working on Vista. Download the drivers then manually install them through device manager and it works. Thanks to the comments here that gave me the idea to do so.
yeah yeah yeah yeah 123
I was banging my head against the wall on this one as well until I found this thread. It you manually install the drivers it works fine for both XP and Vista (I tested it on both machines). Good luck to all others!
I just purchased a Dynex webcam at Bestbuy ($15) and it works fine.
I had to download a plugin (June 2007) from Dynex to get Skype video to work, and it needed some software assistance from ecamm (www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/), a $10 program which enables USB webcam in iChat. After a re-boot it all works great

I think I found the solution for Windows USERS.
The problem with the webcam lies in the actual windows drivers.
The drivers being used to install the camera, are the generic webcam drivers
that are found on windows. This is the reason for the webcam is not working.
Now, to fix this problem we have found a solution.
Make sure the camera is not connected.
You will have to uninstall the original webcam drivers from Add/Remove Programs.
Restart.
After restarting, re-install the CD drivers making sure the webcam is not connected.
After the install, re-connect the camera. If a prompt appears asking for PC drivers
choose “install from a list or specific location (advanced)” and click next.
Then choose the option “Don’t Search. I will Choose the driver to install” click next.
You Should see “Dynex Webcam” as an option. Choose this option and install.
The camera should now work.
If you were not prompted for an install, make sure the drivers CD is installed
and the camera is connected. Then
Go to the Control panel, and Click SYSTEM.
Click the HARDWARE Tab and click DEVICE MANAGER.
Look For Imaging Devices and open the options.
There should be a Device called USB WEB CAM under Imaging devices.
Right click and go to PROPERTIES and click the driver tab.
Click Update Driver.
Choose “install from a list or specific location (advanced)” and click next.
Then choose the option “Don’t Search. I will Choose the driver to install” click next.
You Should see “Dynex Webcam” as an option. Choose this option and install.
The camera should now work.
I hope this works for you.

Thanks, Jen’s repost worked. Thanks for the help all. Lol, it seems the webcam we all have is now discontinued.
I also had the BLACK SCREEN problem, and uninstalled, reinstalled, to no avail. I have Compaq laptop running on Windows XP. Would have given up on the Dynex DX-DTCAM and just taken it back, but my husband has one and has no problems with it, and he bought one for me, as the Rocketfish I had was not working right. When I got the black screen, et al, I could not take it back easily, as I am in a small town in Germany, and there is no “Best Buy” here.
So, I really appreciate all the helpful blogs out there. I did just as Carlos “Waffles” said, and it works like a charm! Now I can hardly wait for my hubby to get up (it is only 6 AM in Alabama) so I can chat with him and he can see me when we chat on Skype.
Ok, back to Xmas shopping. Frohes Weihnachtsfest!

I am so mad right now at Dynex I could just scream. I was actually told to keep plugging and unplugging the card in until it worked, otherwise it’s bad. Then was asked if they could help me with anything else. I asked her if she could send me some aspirin as they just wasted 1/2 hour of my life for nothing and I have a huge headache.
I had similar probs with Dynex cam…..
Fortunately for me my cousin works for Dynex
& when he comes over this new Years….
I’m gonna Fuck him up….
Ill try to get in a couple of extra
punches for you guys too….
omg so i bought this gay webcam today thinking it was cheap ($10) and its not working on my XP. So this chick on ebay had a guide on how to maker it work. it said to download the driver off the site but my stupid compy said that i dont have permission to access it!!!! so yeah im prettty much screwed, can someone give me a step by step guide to getting through this! oh and i have a Dynex DX-DTCAM btw.
PLEASE HELP! I WAS SO EXCITED TO GET THIS CAMERA AND I NEED THIS FIXED!!
actually nvm all that i just wrote. i used the advice of Carlos “waffles” and it works SOOO good! Thx Carlos!
why does dynex sell products with no support, then lie about their service. Dynex really sucks!!!!!
yeah, me again! my camera works but my audio doesnt work on msn. if i make a video , it records it. but when im on msn , i cant have a video call. how do i fix this?
I just brought a Dynex E402 router, and sent over 4 hours trying to get it to connect to the internet with my DSL modem. I followed their quick start wizard, and did every thing correctly, still the router would not connect to the internet. I think the router’s firmware is really wimpy and needs to be more robust in it’s ability to connect to the internet.
Use windows add/remove programs in control pannel to remove any of your previous installs of your webcam.
Do not connect the webcam until you have downloaded the driver. First get the latest driver from dynexproducts.com. Connect your webcam. Do not let Windows install your driver. When it asks for that you have to say NO, install it manually. Then point it to the location where you downloaded the latest driver.
If it still does not work, go into Device Manager and do re-instaall driver for Dynex webcam. You may need to reboot after that.
Hope this will help.
One another place you can get the latest driver from is here (but I have not checked this site):-
http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=881494
Hi,
I just bought a Dynex DX-DTCAM, obviously before I read all this. However, I was able to get it to work with Skype by downloading the most recent drivers from their web site and then restarting my computer (Mini Mac with 10X most recent)
Hope this helps someone.
Hi everyone. I have been frustrated with this camera for going on 3 months, but found this thread and now it is working! DX DT-Cam. Find Victor Hugo’s post and you will be fine.
I bought a portable DVD player and the “car cord” broke.
Future Shop said they don’t have the item. Called Dynex and they tranferred me back to
Future Shop “Best Buy” parts dept. Went back to Dynex and they said its is not their
problem. I will never, ever buy anything from Dynex and Best Buy/Future Shop again they have terrible customer service.
VOTE AT THE CASH REGISTER PEOPLE. I AM.

I get the same black screen!!. good thing my sis. bought it not me ;P
I can not speak english so good, but this place has visited for very intelligent people. Let me tell you somethings:
1. Dinex Web Cam instructions are trash, incomplete and poor. Dynex support really -really- sucks.
2.Thanks to Jen and John. Especially thanks to Carlos “waffles”. Their explications were very clear, simply and sucessfull. Finally, after months of anger, I can make the cam works… with a litlle help from my friends.
3. Thanks again for Jen, John and Carlos. They made me very happy.
4. Thanks a lot.
5. Thanks again and forever.
Does anyone know where to get the driver for the dynex 5-in-1 memory card. the disc they gave me doesn’t work..does it? It’s too small for the internal cd reader.
I have the solution to the Dynex black screen problem:
Go to control panel/System/Device manager/Imaging devices
Right click “update driver software”
Select “browse my computer”
Select “let me pick from a list”
Select “Dynex WebCam”
Voila!!!
You really expect that a guy with 3 weeks of training in basic troubleshoothing (reinstall, restart pc… thats it) who is supposed to handle 1000 different products (we get trained in about 20) to actually KNOW how to fix something.
We are just happy when the call doesnt end with the customer yelling at us or asking for a sup call.
People read the manual, thats what we do, thats ALL we do, we try the TBs from the manual and then a reinstall and thats it…
Just got a Dynex 1.3 MP to work with Skype on a MacMini 10.4.11.
Keys:
Nothing comes on the CD nor at their website for 1.3 MP and OS X. You have to go to a different, discontinued webcam and download its driver. (I probably downloaded this by mistake, a happy mistake)
http://www.dynexproducts.com/p-459-dynex-desktop-web-camera.aspx
Look for Dynex Webcam:Dynex Driver OS X.10:Dynex Driver OSX 1.01.dmg in the downloaded driver. IIRC, there’s a note which says this is only for 10.4.9 and up. Double-click on Dynex Driver OSX 1.01:Dynex Driver Install.pkg to install and then reboot.
Macam doesn’t support Dynex.
The video only works on one app at a time. If you’re playing with the camera in ‘WebCam Support’ (an unmarked app, I’m not sure if it appeared after the Dynex or Macam install attempts), it won’t show up as a source elsewhere.
people, this is a discountinued model and you will get the black screen everytime you install it no matter how many times you change it….you need to install it via control panel…manually…let me know if you have any issues…
fyi: the image is actually pretty good for a 10$ camera…
ciao
wow… people are still adding comments to this thread! i’ll add my $0.02 then: i bought a Dynex E402 wired router a few weeks ago, had 2 days of frustration trying to get it to work, then finally somehow did the exact right series of steps in the right order, and the damn thing worked. i thought my problems were solved, although the router did slow down internet access to a disappointing degree. not sure if that’s a constant with any router or if some are better than others, but anyway i was happy for a few days. then, i moved some furniture around and had to unplug my DSL modem from the wall. stupidly, i did not disconnect the power supply from the modem or power down the router. when i put everything back together, the router just would not work. the process that worked previously didn’t help. no amount of trial & error produced any results. finally, i called dynex customer support. the CSR guided me through the exact same process that I had tried dozens of times over the last few days, then when she got to the point where (i thought) she was about to ask me for the results of ipconfig /all, the line went silent. the call stayed connected for a minute or so and then ended. the clueless CSR put me on hold, then hung up on me, rather than admit that the product is crappy and there was nothing she could do! which suggests to me that their customers running out of time to return/exchange a bum product and getting stuck with it, is a significant revenue stream for dynex. i just got home from returning the router to best buy, and i vow today to never shop there again.
